Economic Development Initiative
ᐃᓄᒃᑎᑐᑦ (Inuktitut version)
In Canada's three territories, the Economic Development Initiative (EDI) provides funding for projects that encourage economic growth in the North's Francophone communities. First announced in 2008 as part of the Government of Canada's Roadmap for Canada's Linguistic Duality Action Plan, the North's allocation through EDI was administered by CanNor, resulting in an investment of $400,000 in the North's Official Language Minority Communities.
On March 28, 2013, the EDI was renewed for another five years when the Honourable James Moore, then Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, unveiled the Roadmap for Canada's Official Languages 2013–2018. The Roadmap represents an investment of more than $1.1 billion in official languages for the period 2013–2018. For more information visit the Heritage Canada website.
The new EDI for Canada's North (Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon) is anticipated to be launched in the fall 2013. Please check back for more details.
