What is the call for expressions of interest?

CanNor launched a call for expressions of interest for projects that foster innovation and clean technology and contribute directly to economic development in Yukon, the Northwest Territories or Nunavut.

The deadline to submit an expression of interest has passed. All of CanNor's contribution programs continue to accept project proposals that that foster innovation and clean technology and contribute directly to economic development.

Under innovation, expressions of interest should focus on projects that develop, adopt, or adapt innovative products, services or processes relevant to a particular sector and location. You will need to demonstrate that the proposed project is innovative and will promote economic development.

Under clean technology, expressions of interest should focus on projects that develop, adopt, or adapt clean technologies relevant to a particular sector and location. You will need to demonstrate that the proposed project will improve environmental performance and will promote economic development.  

Who is eligible to submit an expression of interest?

Projects selected under this call will be funded under CanNor's existing programs.  For details on who is eligible, please see the Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) program Guidelines or the Northern Aboriginal Economic Opportunities Program Program (NAEOP) Terms and Conditions.

Eligible applicants could include communities, development corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, other levels of government, non-government organizations, research and educational institutions as well as business associations.

How much funding is available for projects under innovation and clean technology?

Projects selected under this call will be funded under CanNor's existing programs.

Under the Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development program, funding may cover up to 80% of the costs of your project, to a maximum of $2 million. Under the Northern Aboriginal Economic Opportunities Program, the maximum funding available is $3 million per year.

Small and medium-sized enterprises will be funded to a maximum of $99,999.

How is CanNor describing innovation and clean technology?

Innovation is seen as the conversion of ideas and knowledge into new products and services. Innovation in the North includes accelerating the uptake of existing technologies and processes by refining and adapting them to work under northern conditions, as well as the development of new technologies and processes.

Clean technology is any technology that improves on life-cycle environmental performance (be it air – reduction of greenhouse gas emission; water quality or soil) relative to the standard/most commonplace technology in a given market. What information needs to be included in an expression of interest?

Expressions of interest must include the information outlined in CanNor's Guidelines for Expressions of Interest to be considered for funding. Projects under consideration will be evaluated through two of CanNor's existing programs: the Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) and the Northern Aboriginal Economic Opportunities Program (NAEOP).

Proposals that meet the requirements under innovation or clean technology and are eligible under CanNor's SINED or NAEOP programs will be invited to submit a complete and signed application.
